Estimates only. Compute prices are rounded on-demand ap-south-1 figures as of August 2026; data transfer is billed separately by AWS.
How the estimate works
Each participant uploads their camera once. The videobridge sends every receiver only the streams they can see, up to about nine tiles at once, at the bitrate of the layer they need. Peak server upload is therefore participants × visible streams × bitrate per stream, and two-person meetings are free because they go peer to peer.
Server size follows the loads we deploy: about 20 participants on a t3.small, 50 on a t3.medium and 100 on a t3.large. Beyond that we add videobridges rather than a bigger machine. Transcription needs 16 GB of RAM, and each recording needs about two cores, which is why recorders move to their own servers.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is this calculator?
It is a planning estimate based on the sizes our platform deploys and typical simulcast bitrates. Real usage depends on how many people keep cameras on, the layout they use and network conditions. Measure your server's outbound traffic after launch and adjust.
Why does bandwidth matter more than CPU for Jitsi?
The videobridge forwards video without re-encoding it, so each extra viewer costs network capacity rather than processing. Recording is the exception, because Jibri encodes video on the CPU.
